The Computing Center, an Ithaca, NY based computer technology systems integration company is pleased to announce that it has acquired the assets of Sherpa Technologies, Inc. The acquisition has been under discussion since May, 2017 and closed on September 7th.

CEO, Mary Stazi, said that the acquisition of Sherpa fits well within The Computing Center’s strategic initiatives: “From The Computing Center’s perspective, our two companies have been respected friendly competitors for decades. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to continue to expand our client base and staff by acquiring a company with the same values of client focus, integrity, and local Ithaca based ownership.”

Brian Oursler, the President of Sherpa Technologies decided that after 37 years in the computer technology industry and 26 years as President of Sherpa Technologies, it was time to retire. He feels that the acquisition by The Computing Center is very positive for Sherpa clients: “All of Sherpa Technologies’ customers can be truly excited by the combining of two of this region’s premier IT Solution Providers. Customers will continue to receive outstanding services and business solutions with the added expertise and capability The Computing Center offers.”

All of Sherpa’s sales and technical staff are being retained by The Computing Center and will be located at its Cornell Business and Technology Park location. With the additions, Computing Center’s total Ithaca, NY based staff increases to twenty-two. Over 95% of the combined clients are located in Ithaca, Tompkins and the surrounding counties. Stazi commented: “A number of our clients are locally headquartered, but have locations throughout the Northeast. Between our increased local staff and with our long-time collaboration with Trust-X Alliance, we can effectively service clients throughout North America.”

The Computing Center was founded by Ithaca native, Larry Baum and his brother in 1978. Stazi became majority owner of the company and CEO in January 2016 and it became a certified New York State Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) in August 2016. The WBE designation allows the company to provide valuable technology products and services to public sector, government, and educational clients as well as commercial companies doing business directly with or with contracts from New York State.

In addition to providing all of Sherpa’s products and services, all clients will now have access to a deeper list of technology manufacturer authorizations, greater warranty coverages, both local and remote hosting services, and a greater level of expertise.
