Robert H. Treman State Park

Popular among families for its lifeguarded swim area, the Lower falls at Robert H. Treman State park is the most visible of the park's dozen waterfalls. To truly experience the park, hike any of the trails that parallel Enfield Creek as it plunges almost 500ft through 2.2mi Enfield Glen.

Taughannock Falls State Park

Enjoy swimming in Cayuga Lake, a picnic area, concessions, a playground, camping, cabins and more! There is a marina offering parking for 25 rigs, a concession stand, and a protected harbor.

Buttermilk Falls State Park

Visible from the state park entrance, cascading Buttermilk Falls is the largest of 20 falls along Buttermilk Creek as it plunges 600 feet to the valley. For real beauty hike the stairs into the heart of the gorge.

Beebe Lake

Located at the heart of Cornell's campus, Beebe Lake is surrounded by a one-mile walking path, beautiful vistas, and wooded areas all part of the Cornell Botanic Gardens.

Chart Your Path

Tompkins County is home to one of the fastest and most scenic half marathons you’ll ever run. The point-to-point route for the race begins along Dubois Road in the nearby town of Ulysses. Runners will follow the road into the Cayuga Lake valley for the first mile or so before turning onto the recently completed Black Diamond Trail, an 8.5-mile-long stone and dust rail trail.The path heads south along the lakeshore until you run into the Cayuga Lake Waterfront Trail, past the famed Ithaca Falls as you cross over the bridge at Fall Creek, and then cross the finish line right after you cross over Cascadilla Creek.

No matter the season, explore the beauty of the outdoors in Ithaca. Spend a sunny day touring one of the many waterfalls and gorges or relax on the Finger Lakes’ largest lake, Cayuga Lake. You’ll find over 28,000 acres of public New York State forest ripe for skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and exploring.

Cayuga Lake is the longest of the Finger Lakes, just under 30 miles. Ride your bike along the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, rent a stand-up paddleboard or kayak, or book a sunset sail to explore all that Cayuga Lake has to offer.

Winter Activities

Ithaca is home to a newly renovated state-of-the-art indoor rock climbing facility. Unveiled in Fall 2016, it includes includes the Sklar Lead Wall, certified Instructors, Learn to Climb courses and over 8,000 square feet of climbing space.
