Tavares Awarded Recertification in International Economic Development Designation
Ithaca, NY – Jennifer Tavares, CEcD, President & CEO of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, was been awarded re-certification by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), early in 2017.
Ms. Tavares first achieved the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation in the fall of 2013. CEcD recertification was awarded to Ms. Tavares, who met demanding requirements for continuing education and service to the profession. With over ten years of economic development experience, Ms. Tavares has continued to serve in an economic development role in her capacity as president of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, and through her service on the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency board, the Tompkins County Area Development Board, the Workforce Development Board, the Air Service Board, and her support of many community development and quality of life enhancing projects.
The designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) is a highly recognized international designation that denotes mastery of principal skills in economic development, professional attainment, and a commitment to professional growth. Ms. Tavares first earned her certification by passing a rigorous three-part, two-day examination, testing her knowledge, proficiency, and judgment in key areas of economic development.
As highly skilled economic development practitioners, Ms. Tavares and over 1,000 other Certified Economic Developers work with public officials, business leaders, and community members to create and retain high-quality jobs, expand workforce opportunities, create infrastructure and policy conditions to support development, establish economic vibrancy, and improve quality of life for the people they serve.
