PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE ANNUAL WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S® – ITHACA

Hundreds to Descend on Cass Park for Annual Event

Residents from Cortland, Tioga and Tompkins counties will unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on September 18 at Cass Park in Ithaca. The event is presented by Brookdale Senior Living Solutions. Walkers can register as individuals or start a team by visiting www.alz.org/walk. Event check-in opens at 11:30 a.m. with the Walk beginning at 1 p.m.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than just another walk-a-thon. It is an experience for more than 500 participants that gather the park to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical studies enrollment to support programs and services. Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.

In addition to the three-mile walk along Cayuga Lake and Inlet, participants can enjoy freshly-prepared foods from local food trucks and Ithaca Coffee Company, and take part a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.  As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.

To start or join a team today, visit alz.org/walk, or please join us at the upcoming kick-off event at Ithaca Coffee Company on Triphammer Road. The kick-off party will be held on Tuesday, September 13 from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. You will be able to register for Walk and pick-up team captain materials. To learn more about disease and available resources, call the toll-free Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800-272-3900.
