Tompkins County, along with 9 other regions, are starting the 4 phases presented by Governor Andrew Cuomo to UnPause NY State. Over the next few months, organizations throughout the State will face differing schedules and parameters for resuming business operations. With strong commitments to community partnership and public impact, the Tompkins Chamber of Commerce is continuing it’s L.E.A.R.N webinar series and shifting our focus to COVID-19 Business Reopen and Recovery.

Our webinar on June 24 focused on providing information for employers and employees on Shared Work Support. Mary McLaughlin, Workforce Development Specialist with Tompkins Workforce New York, will provide an overview of the Shared Work Program and provide participants the opportunity to ask questions along the way. In addition, TWNY are providing a Survey Monkey link for all affected staff who may wish to submit questions after the workshop, as they navigate the Shared Work application process and/or have other questions moving forward.

Webinar Outline:
Shared Work – How to apply – Mary shared screenshots of the online Shared Work application process and discussed what documents and information affected employees will need to know to apply. She also emphasized tips that will help the process to go more smoothly
Shared Work Help (FAQs and Tips) – Mary reviewed NYS DOL’s current FAQs, as well as tips our staff have put together that will make the process easier to navigate and complete successfully. In addition, she covered information about the current length of Shared Work benefits, accessing the additional $600/wk (PUC), and how other work impacts Shared Work benefits.
Moving Forward – Mary discussed current services available through TWNFY including virtual workshops, highlighted online training resources, and demonstrated the use of the Tompkins ReDirect and NYS DOL job search sites for essential employment opportunities for those who would like to pursue other employment.

The format of the webinar was a 45 minute presentation of information followed by a 15 minute Q&A.
