Ithaca, N.Y. – July 14, 2015 – Ithaca Beer Co. will proudly hold an informal groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, July 16 at 10:30 am to mark the beginning of a 24,000 square foot construction expansion. The expansion signals the next chapter in Ithaca Beer’s dynamic growth in the craft brewing industry.
The additional space, which nearly doubles the current facility’s physical size will provide more room for fermentation and conditioning tanks as well as a new state-of-the-art automated packaging system for bottling and kegging beer. It will also provide more efficient shipping and receiving space to accommodate trucks that deliver Ithaca Beer Co.’s products to 43 wholesalers located in 9 states plus Washington, DC. Ithaca Beer Co. is one of the largest craft breweries in New York State having brewed just over 24,000 barrels of beer in 2014 – a 30% increase in production from the previous year.
The much needed space will allow Ithaca Beer Co. to brew and package up to 90,000 barrels of beer a year, poising the Company for future expanded distribution into new markets while maintaining its strong base in New York State.
Founder and President Dan Mitchell built the brewery’s current 16,000 square foot facility in 2012. The move was necessary in order to accommodate Ithaca Beer’s explosive growth which exceeded the capacity of its original location on Route 13. Mitchell founded Ithaca Beer Co. in 1998.
Media are invited to attend the ceremony which will be attended by members of Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, Tompkins County Area Development and Ithaca Tourism.
